I’m Tomoko, a Japanese potter who discovered the magic of clay in 2017 at a nearby community pottery studio. From the moment I first wedged and threw on the wheel, I knew I had found my calling. Enthralled by the tactile connection between my hands and the earth, I purchased my own wheel—and soon after, a kiln—to transform my passion into a craft I could call my own.
Today, I’m proud to work from a lovely home pottery studio nestled on our naturally rich property, surrounded by misty mountains and lush forest. The serene landscape fuels my creativity each day, offering inspiration in every sunrise and shadow. My studio is a place of calm focus, where I can experiment with form, texture, and color in an environment that feels both intimate and expansive.
I believe every piece should be as unique as the moment that inspired it. That’s why:
- No two forms are identical in shape, size, or silhouette
- I layer multiple glazes to achieve a spectrum of hues, evoking the gentle transitions found in landscapes
- I treat each surface like a canvas—painting rolling hills, sunlit peaks, and delicate blossoms with glaze
- I pay meticulous attention to texture, balance, and finish, ensuring each work is beautiful, durable and practical
My approach reflects a deep Japanese influence: a reverence for natural beauty, an emphasis on simplicity, and a harmony between function and artistry.
For the past three years, I’ve shared my creations at local artisan markets, where I’ve had the joy of meeting pottery lovers. Seeing my pieces find new homes—and knowing they bring warmth and character to living spaces—fuels my enthusiasm to continue evolving as a potter.
